Algonquin Cocktail
The Algonquin Hotel situated at West 43rd St, New York is credited with being the birthplace of the Algonquin Cocktail. The hotel itself is a landmark, being in midtown Manhattan. It was once upon a time, host to the ‘Algonquin Roundtable’, where the elite of New York City used to conglomerate.
If you are rich or affluent enough you can order a cocktail there, which costs ten thousand dollars. ‘What in the world does it have, to be so costly?’, you may ask. The answer is ‘a sparkling diamond at the bottom’. Well, you could use the occasion to propose marriage and the diamond could be a gift for your loved one. You could also have a cocktail sans the diamond, which would appropriately be more moderately priced.
You need not belong to ‘the rich and famous’ to enjoy an ‘Algonquin Cocktail’ though. Any bartender around the world, worth his trade, should know how to mix one. You can also fix one yourself.
How to conjure an Algonquin:-
You will need: –Blended whiskey –Dry Vermouth – Pineapple juice
Proportion for the drink: –One and a half ounce Blended Whiskey –One ounce Dry Vermouth –One ounce Pineapple juice
Blending Instructions: - Shake the contents vigorously and then strain them into a cocktail glass. Top it up with a cherry.
The combination of whiskey and pineapple has a magical effect and produces a drink whose taste is both familiar and unexpected. Behind the yellow color of the drink, hides the sophistication of the urbane gentry who frequented the Algonquin Hotel.
